Rethinking fatigue management
Somna started with a simple observation: millions of shift workers suffer not from a lack of sleep, but from a lack of tools to manage the transitions between schedules. We're a team of design engineers building individualised fatigue management, starting with sleep.

Our values
Individual, not one-size-fits-all
Every shift worker has a different roster, a different body, and a different recovery pattern. Somna builds an individualised fatigue plan for each person, not a generic schedule.
Filling the gap the system leaves
Hospitals manage staffing, not recovery. When a nurse finishes three night shifts and rotates to days, the system expects them to just cope. Somna manages what happens between those shifts.
Led by evidence, shaped by users
We run studies with real shift workers and publish findings openly. The people living with rotating rosters tell us what matters. The research tells us how to solve it.
Why we publish our findings
The science of shift-work fatigue is still evolving, and we think the people building solutions should contribute to it, not just profit from it. Somna runs controlled studies with real shift workers who opt in through our waitlist. We publish the results openly, whether they validate our approach or challenge it.
Our research page tracks active studies, the published literature that informs our approach, and practical articles that translate sleep science into advice for shift workers. If you join the waitlist, you can choose to participate in studies, helping shape the product while contributing to a growing body of evidence on fatigue management.
Individualised fatigue management for every occupation
We're starting with rotating shift workers (nurses, paramedics, factory operators) because their need is the most acute and the least served. But the underlying problem extends far beyond hospitals and warehouses. Long-haul drivers, airline crews, military personnel, emergency services, and athletes all face the same challenge: managing fatigue with no personalised support.
Somna's long-term goal is to build an individualised fatigue management platform that adapts to any schedule pattern, any physiology, and any work environment. Every user's data makes the algorithms smarter for everyone. What starts as a sleep-shift wearable becomes the foundation for a new category of occupational health tooling.
